Mr. Husband and I went to see Bride Wars last night.
I have been wanting to see this movie for like ever. Seriously.
We almost didn't get to see it, though. Thus making for a very interesting story story to tell you.
Yesterday morning I wrote my premier blog post after having been up practically all night with a bunch of 7th grade girls at their lock in where half the time was spent being absolutely best friends forever and the other half was spent being archenemies because each one was certain that Nick liked "me and not you!!!" This was all, of course, mixed with pizza, caffeine, sugar and bible study. For what it's worth,I'm pretty sure they left on the BFF terms, but you never can tell with 7th grade girls! Praise the Lord for youth group lock ins. It was a blast, but needless to say, I was exhausted. So, after I introduced myself to the blog world I went and crawled into bed. And that's where I stayed until about 1pm. Mr. H had been gone at basketball games all morning at the church so the house was quiet and all to myself - and I missed it because I was sleeping. Yes, I love my husband but come on - a girl has got to have some time to herself!
I digress.
Anyway, Mr. H got home just in time to watch the Memphis game on television. Memphis is our team. Mr. H went there for his undergraduate degree, as did his father and his father's father.....you get the picture. So, we are Tiger fans here at the Newly Wedded Life house. And no, we will not get over last year's Conference USA loss. We do not speak of it in our home. Or his parent's home.
Just for the record, it was a great game last night. A great game that didn't end until 6:15. Not a lot of time to eat dinner and get to the movie. So, we go where you go when you want delicious food fast: Chik Fil A. Mine knows me by name. And it's always their pleasure to take my order.
We got there at 6:30, finished eating at 7 and headed to the movie theatre that is literally 30 seconds away. It took us no less than 12 minutes to get there. Apparently in the 30 minutes it took us to eat our #2s with diet lemonade, everyone and their brother decided to see a movie. When we pulled up there was a line wrapped around the theatre to get tickets. Mr. H let me out and parked. Which, by the way, took him about 15 minutes in that horrific parking lot. It's a good thing I wasn't driving, I would have lost my religion. He joined me in line at 7:30. By this time I was getting worried that we wouldn't get in to see the previews. I love previews. As we stood in line I began to quit caring about the previews and just hope there were two seats that were together. About 5 minutes later I decided that we didn't need to sit together, just as long as there were two seats. Then I started thinking that we could get our baseball chairs out of the car and sit in them. Finally we got up to the door and what do you think is flashing on the marquee?!?! Bride Wars SOLD OUT!!!! What the...?!?! I never dreamed it would be sold out. But, here we were. We had inhaled our food, braved traffic that would make your grandma say words only sailors are allowed to say and froze our butts off in the cold for 20 minutes only to make the 5 mile trek back to the car.
Not quite the evening I had planned. However, we got our wits about us and headed to another theatre where it was playing at a little bit later time. When we got to that theatre we immediately got our tickets, even though it wasn't playing for 45 more minutes! And since there was a Target next door and I had been through such an ordeal, I decided to reward myself with a shopping spree couple of new shirts while we were waiting. And I snuck TCBY into the movie.
The movie was good. It made me very glad that my best friend and I got engaged and married in very different time periods. We had always thought it would be fun to be engaged at the same time and get married very close to one another, and ironically our personalities parallel the characters in the movie a bit too much. Suffice it to say, after talking to her last night{she saw the movie Saturday afternoon} we have changed our minds. We will further counsel all young girls we come across to stay far away from the competition weddings. It ruins everything.
In all the night was a successs. We ate good food, saw a good movie, bought cute shirts and learned a life lesson. What else should we have done on a Saturday night?
